Our office has developed the architectural and design solution for the City of Dubrovnik of a new public toilet located in the Old Town. The area will include a male, female, and accessible toilet, baby changing station, a room for employees, and a service wardrobe for temporary luggage storage. When designing the interior of the public toilet, we wanted to give importance with regard to the location and environment in which it is located.
The design is inspired by the modern reinterpretation of the Renaissance aqueduct, but also by the paving of the old gates and the imposing entrances to the old Dubrovnik palaces. We paid attention to the hygienic and epidemiological aspect of the toilet, with the one-way movement within the space itself and all equipment being adopted to easier maintenance requiring minimal contact with users.
