The Ploče transshipment zone, together with the “Međed” fountain and the associated park in its background, has an exceptional historical character. Namely, in the past, the fountain served as a watering place for horses and donkeys that came to Dubrovnik by caravan route from the surrounding area. The area in question was in extremely poor condition, fenced off with plastic screens, and within the fenced area there were motorized and non-motorized means of transport, construction and packaging waste, as well as various other movable items.
In the first, completed phase of the project, the area was landscaped and divided into a reception and transshipment zone and an urban zone with an associated fountain. The second phase of the project envisages the placement of all the facilities, which are currently located on the plateau itself, under the retaining walls of the existing park. The arrangement of the transshipment zone with the associated maneuvering space is planned in the basement level, while storage spaces are envisaged in the underground levels. Above the basement level, in accordance with the existing condition, a park area is planned in the existing dimensions.
