Reastaurant Proto

Proto restaurant is an iconic Dubrovnik fish restaurant and part of Esculap-teo gastro group for years. It has been located in the old city, in a baroque palace in Široka Street no. 1 since 1868.
The client wanted to keep the warm atmosphere of the restaurant, but add a touch of elegance by introducing modern details. One of the demands of the client was a complete redesign of the visual identity. Taking into consideration the heritage and the context and the concept which aimed to provide the interior with a tone of modernity, natural materials like wood, stone and brass were selected. In the redesign of the space, attention was paid to every detail, like the new visual identity created by the awarded design studio Šesnić&Turković. The new logo of Proto restaurant has a leitmotif of an angle, the main tool of fishermen.
A shaped letter P is present in every space; it is imprinted and carved into the main entrance doors, can be found at the mirrors in sanitary facilities, at the retro counter, napkin rings, chair pads and product labels.
The ceiling in the main hall attracts attention. It is designed as a suspended canvas with printed lyrics from Dubrovnik literature history, specially prepared for this occasion by academician Luko Paljetak. The guests of the restaurant can thus see Uncle Maroje and Ivan Gundulić reciting poems on smells and tastes of the rich table while they are enjoying the specialties of the Proto restaurant.
