Gradac Park

The urban-architectural-landscape solution of the park Gradac with a wider urban landscape zone Respecting the humanistic tradition of the Dubrovnik commune, the idea was to re-incorporate this space into the mental image and consciousness of the citizens as a public green space with all the content that this part of the city lacks. The landscape zone from Villa Čingrija in the west to Don Frano Bulić Street in the east is designed as a new public space with an elaborate network of communications. Its main role would be to raise the quality of the citizens’ living space, but also a new alternative approach to the old city core. This space would “take over” part of the tourists and relieve the city.

The Dubrovnik Promenade as the main element and bearer of a new idea is conceived as part of a unique experientially and functionally balanced landscape zone with content that is connected to it in a logically clear sequence and directed to the expected user groups.
It is precisely the experience of this green space from the pedestrian’s point of view that would perceptually and emotionally prepare the passerby for the old city center, creating, with its terraced slopes, characteristic morphology and vegetation, a romantic image of Dubrovnik as a seaside town on a steep coast. A green oasis like this one would provide an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and create a place where in the summer it is possible to escape the heat and sink into peace and original beauty.
