The interior design project for the zone intended for persons with reduced mobility at Ruđer Bošković Airport near Dubrovnik was conceived as a continuation of the architectural-art project Art&Aviation, initiated in 2017 ahead of the opening of Terminal 2, within which we produced the art installation “Play and Games” by academic artist Iris Lobaš Kukavičić.
In addition to meeting all technical regulations concerning persons with reduced mobility, the implementation of the artwork “Red Horizons” by the same artist has created added value for this space. Red Horizons is a visual narrative about transformation and limitless possibilities. The layered structure of the relief reflects a journey through life filled with various challenges, obstacles, moments of calm, and satisfaction.

Within the context of this work, the colour red represents the inner strength of each individual to overcome challenges and move forward. Created from recycled cardboard packaging, the piece testifies to the power of transformation—how, with the right perspective, something once considered worthless can become a bearer of new value and meaning. The transformation of the material reflects the ability of each of us to adapt, grow, and find purpose despite numerous life challenges.
The concept of the work is to encourage viewers to reflect on their own journey, inspiring them to move toward new horizons with confidence and hope. The rich texture and the intense red colour of the relief are also adapted for blind and visually impaired persons. A replica of the work is displayed next to the original piece as a smaller 3D-printed version, allowing visitors to experience the artwork tactually in its entirety. It also includes an integrated audio recording describing the work, which can be listened to through the provided headphones, while information about the artwork and the artist is also presented in Braille.
