The new children’s corner was realized as part of the Frequency store area, our project completed in 2019 on the second floor of the departures terminal at Dubrovnik Airport. In collaboration with the graphic design studio Filburg, we created a unique space for children’s exploration and play, inspired by Ruđer Bošković himself. Guided by the graphic identity of the Frequency store design, the dominant colors of the corner are blue, yellow, and white.
In collaboration with the project designers, five custom-made toys were specially developed for the children’s corner, inspired by some of the many fields explored by Ruđer Bošković – mathematics, geodesy, astronomy, and optics. Each toy introduces one of these scientific themes to children through play in a unique way, encouraging further curiosity and exploration. For example, children can try to assemble the shape of the Earth – the geoid, a concept defined by Ruđer Bošković – or move a wall-mounted toy by following Bošković’s force curve.
In addition to the toys, the children’s corner also features a lounge area for rest or play. Visitors can read short highlights from the life of the great Dubrovnik and Croatian scientist on graphically designed floor and wall stickers.
The toys are adapted for children aged 4 to 10, and their universal design allows them to be enjoyed by both local and international young travelers, who can carry with them a piece of knowledge about Croatia’s most renowned scientist, Ruđer Bošković.
