The project of the restoration of the Diocese seminary is planned as the continuation of the tradition of the prominent Dubrovnik College Collegium Ragusinum, which was founded by the Jesuits back in 1658. The restoration of this baroque complex will allow the revitalisation of this prominent area within the City Walls, today the Diocesan Classical Gymnasium that bears the name of the greatest Croatian scientist Ruđer Bošković. Since the Jesuit construction programme included both the school building and a dormitory, this project plans to keep the classes of the classical gymnasium in the existing building with a newly planned dormitory.
Many respectful grammarians, lexicographers, authors who wrote in Croatian and Latin, philosophers and natural scientists, who worked in the country and in European centres, were educated at the Collegium. The most prominent was a Jesuit priest Ruđer Bošković, Dubrovnik born scientist who worked in different fields, like mathematics, astronomy, physics, philosophy, archaeology and geoscience. He was a genius and anticipator of knowledge and theories gained many years later. He wrote many different works of science, most notable being the Theory of the Structure of Matter.
There is no representative space in Dubrovnik where this brilliant scientist is presented. This project thus plans the memorial space of Ruđer Bošković within the Collegium.
This project aimed to present the historical story of the great Croatian mind Ruđer Bošković and have the users of the space know about the work and life of this outstanding Dubrovnik born scientist.
